“I know music is the great healer and learning to play a musical instrument can make a positive impact on a child’s life.”

“On November 12th 1966 my oldest brother James Grady Jones was killed in action on a night mission over North Vietnam. He had just been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross 2 months earlier but this moonless night he did not return his A-4 Skyhawk fighter/bomber to the deck of the USS FDR. He left behind family and friends who loved him dearly including a 5 year old daughter and a 1 year old son, Scott. Scott would grow up with a total of 4 stepfathers some of whom abused him. He turned to a life of drugs and petty crimes and eventually hung himself in a Costa Rican prison cell In 2004.  I can’t help Scott, but I can reach out to the new Scott’s which we are adding at an alarming rate.

It is our goal to put guitars in the hands of the surviving children of service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Five hundred in 2020 and one thousand in 2021.

We need your help to make this goal come true”

The Mission of Gold Star Mentors

The mission of Gold Star Mentors is to give guitars and teach gold star children, so that they may use music as a coping and healing mechanism. Our goal for 2020 is to start this healing process by giving away 500 guitars and lessons to gold star children.

This is where you come in, we need your help to realize our vision. A contribution of $250 will assist us in reaching this goal. Your contribution buys a Guitar, a portion of the expenses that it takes to bring these Gold Star children to a location in close proximity to their home and allows us to provide the instructors that will teach them the basic skills guitar playing. Our hope is the guitar and the joy of learning to play will assist them in their healing process and provide them with a friend for life as it did for Brett and many other musicians like him of all skill levels.

Gold Star Mentors Inc. is a Tennessee based nonprofit 501(c)3 0rganization and is not part of, or endorsed by, the Department of Defense.

Changing Children’s Lives, One Guitar At a Time

Since 2003, seven thousand service men and women have been killed in the service of our country in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Even more alarming is 7,300 service members and veterans take their own lives each year. These tragic deaths leave spouses, moms, dads, sons, and daughters without their loved one. These deaths often lead to years of sorrow and grief that creates additional family tradgedy including suicide among the surviving family members including their children.

While we can’t heal every broken heart we do intend to bring a friend of a guitar and the gift of music to as many of these children as time and resources allow. In order to fulfill this promise we need your help.

Gold Star Mentors is a 501 c-3 non profit organization started in 2017 by Nashville Hit Songwriter Brett Jones.

Support Gold Star Mentors

Your Support Brings Hope and Healing. Gold Star Mentors (GSM) offers guitars and music lessons to children grieving the military loss of a parent or sibling. Since 2017, Gold Star Mentors has provided guitars and lessons to surviving children of military families who have lost a loved one. Help us realize our vision of gifting five hundred guitars in 2020 and one thousand guitars in 2021 and beyond.

No matter how large or small the gift, your donation makes a difference and provides surviving military children the gift of music and a path towards healing.

Sponsor a Guitar

Providing hope and healing is central to our mission of giving the gift of music to survivors who are struggling with the loss of a loved one, lost in the service to our country.

The Gold Star mission is to provide hope and healing to survivors by gifting them a guitar and teaching them the basic skills to get them started playing. It is our goal to give five hundred guitars away in 2020 and one thousand in 2021.  Unfortunately this only scratches the surface of those survivors needing a grief tool but it is a beginning.

If you’re interested in sponsoring a guitar you can donate online or contact us by email gsm@beartoothbiz.com, or call at 406-690-5988

Host A Fundraiser

A house fundraiser, sometimes known as a friend raiser is an event you will host in your home or other small private venue for your friends and social network. It is both a fundraiser for Gold Star Mentors and an amazing private concert for you and your friends. Brett Jones will bring one or two of his Nashville Hit Songwriters buddies to perform their songs and tell the stories behind their songs.
